Singer turned politician Mathias Walukagga is brimming with confidence as he prepares for the 2026 Busiro East parliamentary race. Recently endorsed as the National Unity Platform (NUP) flagbearer, Walukagga is already speaking like a winner, boldly declaring the seat “already mine” and even shopping for his swearing in suit.
In a recent interview, Walukagga stated, “One foot is already in Parliament. When you get the NUP card, you’ve secured 50% you only need 1% more to make 51% and be sworn in.” His self-assurance, he says, is rooted in faith, believing that his political journey is divinely ordained. “God decided to pick me,” he added, acknowledging his rivals’ capabilities but insisting his victory is destined.
The race took a new turn when incumbent MP Medard Sseggona, who has represented the constituency for 15 years, announced he would run as an independent after losing the NUP flag. However, Walukagga remains unfazed, describing this moment as the opportunity he’s long awaited. He emphasized his unwavering loyalty to NUP, stating that even if he hadn’t secured the party ticket, he would never have contested as an independent.
As campaign season heats up, Walukagga is calling on Busiro East voters to back his mission to serve. With the NUP endorsement as his launchpad, he is banking on a mix of political charisma, grassroots support, and firm faith to carry him to victory.
While Sseggona’s experience poses a significant challenge, Walukagga’s bold and confident approach has already grabbed public attention setting the stage for a lively and high-stakes 2026 race. Whether his confidence proves prophetic or premature, one thing is clear: Walukagga is all in suit ready and spirits high.
